The Norfork River, Arkansas
This is a beautiful river in the Osark Mountains in northern Arkansas. There are some huge trout here and a well maintained 2 mile "Catch & Release" are exclusively for fly fishers.
Big Wood River, Idaho
The Big Wood's headwaters are found just west of Galena Peak which is over 11,000 feet high. From its source in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area, the Big Wood River flows 60 miles due south. Rainbows are caught in all sizes varying from 10 to 20 inches and it’s not uncommon to hook 15 to 20 trout on a good hatch day.
The Bull River, Montana
Located in western Montana, the Bull meanders through meadows for its first 12-15 miles below Bull Lake. This free stone, spring fed river is very deep in spots and holds some of the largest numbers of brown and bull trout I have ever seen. The brown drake hatches in May and June are absolutely incredible.
The Moyie River, Idaho
Did you know, there is a wonder small river called the Moyie flowing into the Kootenai River just 12 miles inside the Idaho state line? This river may hold the state record brookie (and has great cutties and bows as well).
The Flathead River, Montana
Nestled at the base of Glacier National Park, the Flathead River and its 3 forks make for an absolutely beautiful fishing float. The river contains rainbow, cutthroat and bull trout, the latter of which you cannot keep. Huge stoneflies, caddis and generic nymphs predominate on the system.
The Kootenai River, Idaho
All fly fishers know about the Kootenai River in Montana and its world record rainbow trout caught just below Libby dam. However, did you know, the same Kootenai River enters Idaho only 49 miles west of where the world record trout was caught and is just as easily floatable and fishable as the Libby area?
Fly fishing is a challenging activity and many fishermen wants to master the art of fly fishing to be successful. Fly fishing is all about the right precision and movement in order to lure fishes of different species. In order to be successful in fly fishing, there are tips that are suggested below.
1) Ensure completeness of materials on the site. This is essential before fly fishing in order to ensure that minimal movements are made because silence is very much needed while waiting for the fishes to be lured to the artificial flies casted on the water. Having equipments and materials readily accessible lessens disturbances that may alert fishes of nearby fishermen waiting to catch them.
2) Next is to ensure safety. Sunglasses must be worn to protect the eyes and hats are worn to protect the head from any injury during casting. Another safety tip is to ensure that the place for wading is safe from dangerous animals that might pounce on us and making us potential prey. One must be very familiar with the place for fly fishing in order to prevent getting lost.
3) Choosing the right type of flies or lures. This is essential in fly fishing because the type of fishes that will be catched depends on the lures or flies used. The weight, size and color of lures are always considered in order to ensure that fishes will really bite on the lures. For example, bass are after attractive lures and those that are easily spotted on the water surface. They wait and observe their lures and pounce on it when they think it is safe to grab the prey.
4) Practice the right casting. Executing the right cast is dependent on the posture, hand grip, elbow and arms positioning and the proper throwing of the fly fishing line. Practicing the two most common types of casting which is the overhead casting and forward casting is essential.
5) Practice the techniques in moving the lures. Lures are not only made by bright colors or attractive colors to attract fishes. Their movement must also be studied in order to make them appear real. This will easily lure out the big fishes.
6) Wearing the right attire. First is to choose the right shoes for wading on the water. Shoes with rubber soles are recommended because it is ideal on muddy ground, sand or fine gravel. The next thing to consider is the clothes to be used. Example, a fisherman must minimize wearing bright colors that are attractive to insects. This can cause potential problems especially that there are still unknown species of insects in the world.
